WebDescription. The Northern Goshawk is a large-bodied forest-dwelling hawk with broad wings and a long rounded tail. It is the largest of the three accipiters (forest hawks adapted to fast flight) found in Minnesota, and it is adapted to maneuvering and hunting in forests. Adult females are larger than adult males. WebNorthern Goshawk is similar in appearance to sympatric Accipiters but can be distinguished from both Cooper’s Hawk (A. cooperii) and Sharp-shinned Hawk (A. striatus), which are both smaller than Northern Goshawk, and have white underparts with russet barring7. Distribution & Range: Northern Goshawk has a Holarctic distribution.
