Flow focusing microfluidics
WebJan 1, 2014 · Passive methods rely on the geometry and flow rates of the two phases to generate droplets through instabilities in the flow field. There are three types of common passive droplet generators used in microfluidics (see Fig. 1): co-flowing, flow-focusing, and cross-flow designs . WebDec 10, 2024 · Most commercial microfluidic droplet generators rely on the planar flow-focusing configuration implemented in polymer or glass chips. The planar geometry, however, suffers from many...

WebJan 1, 2024 · As microfluidics only deal with fluids in movement, passive methods rely on the variation of intrinsic parameters, such as flow velocity and material properties to modify inertial, viscous, or capillary forces. On the other hand, active methods require an external stimulus as electrical, magnetic, or centrifugal forces. WebDroplet formation in the presence of interfacial networks is investigated in a flow-focusing microfluidic device using designed peptide surfactants, which allow decoupled control of interfacial rheology and interfacial tension. The influence of interfacial elasticity on droplet breakup, satellite droplet formation and droplet size are reported.
