It pretends to be a Newtonian telescope, except that the focal length is much longer than the tube itself. How does this work? A corrector lens is placed in the optical path both to correct for the spherical aberration of the primary mirror and to compress the light path to fit into a shorter tube.

WebNov 12, 2024 · Bird-Jones telescopes are catadioptric, meaning that the light travels the optical tube two times instead of one. The design is challenging to pull off. That is why if you are buying a “low-priced” catadioptric telescope, you should know that the telescope is probably not legitimate. This the case with Celestron 114LCM. WebSep 8, 2024 · Also, the telescope is not a Newtonian -- it is a Bird-Jones telescope (I expand on this a bit in my answer.) Your techniques would otherwise work if the focus travel was long enough to allow the sensor to be brought to the focus point (e.g. on a reflector a SCT telescope, etc.) but will not work on the OP's telescope. – how many days until sept 15 2024
